New management, new fresh rules of conduct and clear goals. The desire to make Ljubljana a city of football. The fact that football is a universal language, and that it is an exceptional combination of cold strategy and passion.
The decision to finally move Slovenian football from the sidetracks into the limelight of the Slovenian sports arena in fact didn’t even serve as the basis behind the unbelievable phenomenon, which is football today. In September, 2006 the Club Chairman Jože (Joc) Pečečnik and Director of Sports Tone Hrovatič thus decided to undertake a new and demanding project – a professional football club based on contemporary sports, marketing and business principles. Above all though, it represented a wind of change on the Slovenian football scene.
In 2006, the Club’s annual general meeting therefore served as the setting fort he election of a new chairman of NK Interblock, Joc Pečečnik. The Club then underwent a complete reconstruction. It started working based on a so-called pilot management model, in which the football club, organisation and company Olimpija 2006, d.o.o. undertake a long-term commitment to business cooperation.
With the help of Slovenia’s first FIFA-licensed football agent, Mr. Hrovatič, the Club has at the begining managed to rearrange and complement the squad of players with some of the best players of slovenian football – Amir Karić, Marinko Galić, Marko Simeunović, Zoran Pavlović and others. The Club has also received a boost with the arrival of Janez Zavrl, who had previously been playing for Brann in the Norwegian league. NK Interblock has brought in experienced players and the club reached its goal and stay in the first league.
The company’s Managing Director is Janez Benčina. The coach of NK Interblock is now Dragan Skočić, while the goalkeeping coach is Luka Grešak. Coach assistants are also Anton Usnik and Klemen Avbelj.
Already well harmonised Interblock side was in the new season 2007/2008 complemented with some of the best Slovenian football players: Janez Strajnar – goalkeeper, Igor Lazić –left defender, Aleksander Rodić – midfielder/attacker, Ermin Raković – attacker, Martin Pregelj – midfielder, Krunoslav Rendulić – left defender, Matjaž Rozman – goalkeeper, Enes Rujović – midfielder. The team also joined Eric Akoto, football player born in Togo, Africa, whose previous club was GAK Graz –Austria.
The Club’s major goal in the future is to get higher and higer in the Slovenian Football League and to bring some new freshness and brightness into Slovenian football, that there would be more and more visitors and fans on each tribune of the game.
